The distribution of heat in a heat pump system depends on the method used to transfer heat to or from the living space. In ducted systems, warm or cool air is circulated through a network of ducts and vents using a blower, making it common in central heating and cooling setups. Ductless mini-split systems, on the other hand, use indoor air-handling units to deliver heat directly into specific rooms, allowing for energy-efficient zoned heating or cooling. Hydronic systems distribute heat via water, which circulates through radiant floor systems, baseboard heaters, or radiators, offering consistent and comfortable warmth. In some cases, fan-coil units use hot or cold water to heat or cool the air distributed by fans. Geothermal heat pumps can integrate with either ducted or hydronic systems to provide efficient heating and cooling using the earth’s stable temperatures. Each distribution method is chosen based on the building’s design, efficiency goals, and specific heating and cooling needs.
